A group, under the aegis of the Concerned Nigerians, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of protecting the former Secretary to the Federal Government (SFG), Babachir Lawal and others from being arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).

The Convener of Concern Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju, told The Guardian the reason it has taken EFCC this long to arraign Babachir Lawal was because, “Lawal happens to be a long-time friend and supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

“As far back in 2002, Babachir Lawal was President Buhari’s Campaign Organisation’s Deputy Co-ordinator in Adamawa State, “ Adeyanju said.
“President Buhari’s anti-corruption drive is blind to people that are close to him while his perceived political enemies are being hounded daily even with trivial cases,” he said.

He continued: “If opposition leaders could be arrested, charged and even handcuffed for receiving campaign funds, why then is the President shielding from prosecution those, who held and are still holding public office and using the positions to enrich themselves? ”
