Buhari condemns abortive coup plot to oust Guinea-Bissau’s leader
President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, congratulated his Guinea-Bissau counterpart, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, on surviving a coup attempt, even as he commended loyal troops for their show of patriotism, leading to their “spectacular victory” over disloyal elements of the military.
He condemned the attempt to subvert established constitutional order in the country and extended the goodwill and support of the government and people of Nigeria to Guinea-Bissauans and Embalo.
He said: “I look forward to working with you to strengthen the existing bilateral ties between our sisterly nations, and the defence and promotion of democracy and its values throughout the sub region, and the entire continent.”
Embalo, meanwhile, has assured Buhari that the situation had been brought under control, adding: “All is well and normalcy fully restored.”
