Owing to rising cases of fatal road accidents, some claiming the lives of public officials, President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday directed the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to swing into action to address the causal factors to prevent avoidable deaths.

The president, who stated this yesterday while commissioning 283 operational vehicles for the Federal Road Safety Corps in Abuja, Buhari said that no responsible government would watch her citizens die innocently because of fragrant abuse of road safety measures put in place stressing that all such infractions must stop with immediate effect.

Buhari, represented by the Minister of Interior, Lt. General Abdulrahim Dambazzau, said, ‘’Despite the numerous successes recorded by the FRSC, there are other areas of road infractions that border on safety, requiring urgent attention of the FRSC, notably, lingering issue of violation of one way traffic by road users within cities and inter-state roads, which has continued to cause fatal accidents.”

“Recurring problem of overloading of humans, animals and other cargo beyond the approved capacity of the vehicles especially by commercial road users ostensibly to maximize profit, one additional road hazard of immense safety implication is the poor handling of cargo containers during haulage, are part of the issues the corps need to address,” the number one citizen said.
