President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, to undertake an urgent mission, as his Special Envoy, to Guinea Bissau, in the company of the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Jean-Claude Brou.

Buhari, who is the Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State, had, in response to an urgent request for assistance by the government of Guinea Bissau, approved the donation of 350 units of electoral kits, 10 motorcycles, five Hilux vans, two light trucks and $500,000 in support of the country’s election process.

In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, yesterday, Buhari said this vital assistance would ensure that legislative elections is held in Guinea Bissau to help in stabilising the country.

In a separate development, Onyeama would also undertake a mission to Cotonou, Benin Republic, to deliver a personal message from Buhari to President Patrice Talon.

The statement said the visit is with regards to the brewing political crisis ahead of tomorrow’s legislative elections in the country.
