The President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation Thursday said it won’t fund the President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign with public funds.

The campaign organisation’s Director of Strategic Communications, Festus Keyamo (SAN), also denied collecting money from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to run the publicity department of the organisation.

“I have not, and will not go near the public purse; the campaign organisation will not do so either. This is a pledge before the Nigerian people by which we shall stand,” Keyamo said.

Keyamo said the allegations that he submitted another larger budget to the corporation to run the publicity aspect of the campaign were false.

“It used to be the case during the era of PDP at the centre that election periods are always seen as a time for bazaar and jamboree when the public treasury is opened for soothsayers, witchdoctors, fraudsters, prostitutes, party loyalists, and all kinds of funny characters to feast upon,” Keyamo said.

Buhari, 75, is seeking a second term while his major contender from PDP is former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, whose running mate Peter Obi is a former governor of Anambra state, in the heart of the Igbo region.
