Buhari’s certificate suit adjourned indefinitely

Justice ‎Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, yesterday adjourned the suit challenging the veracity of the academic credentials of President Muhammadu Buhari indefinitely.

Justice Ademola in his ruling stated that the case was being adjourned indefinitely following a notice of appeal filed by Mr. President.

Buhari had on Wednesday appealed against the previous ruling of the court, dismissing his preliminary objection to the suit as filed by an Abuja-based lawyer, Nnamdi Nwokocha-Ahaaiwe.

The thrust of Nwokocha’s suit was that Buhari was not qualified to run for the office of the president on the ground that he did not possess the minimum qualification to do so.

He also alleged that Buhari did not sit for the Cambridge West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1961 as earlier claimed.

President Buhari is being represented in the case by Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), Lateef O. Fagbemi (SAN), Chief Akin Olujinmi (SAN), Oluwarotimi O. Akeredolu (SAN), Kola Awodein (SAN), Taiwo Osipitan (SAN).

Others are Charles Edosomwan (SAN), Emeka Ngige (SAN), Femi Atoyebi (SAN), Femi Falana (SAN), Funke Aboyade (SAN) and H.O. Afolabi

There has been a controversy over the academic credentials of Buhari. He was alleged not to have included his West African School Certificate among the documents he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the build up to the election.

He was said to have written to INEC, stating that his Secondary School Certificate was with the military board.

But the military‎ board claimed it did not have the document in its possession.
