The Indigenous Peoples Of Biafra (IPOB) worldwide, has said that the extra-legal travails of the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, in the hands of federal security agencies at the instance of President Muhammadu Buhari; have confirmed fears by western powers that the Nigerian leader has poor human right records.

In a statement made available to The Guardian from the IPOB headquarters in Spain signed by Barrister Emma Nmezu and Dr. Clifford Chukwuemeka, Directors of Campaign and Publicity respectively, IPOB maintained that President Buhari has betrayed his claim that he had become a born-again democrat.

IPOB refuted the claims by Buhari that Kanu entered Nigeria without any of his two passports. The statement dated January 25, 2016 and titled: “The folly of Buhari and DSS false claims concerning Nnamdi Kanu’s entry into Nigeria,” IPOB said during his media chat of December 30, 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari, falsely claimed that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, entered into Nigeria without a passport.

“For the avoidance of doubts and to put the records straight, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu legally left Britain, through Heathrow Airport on his way to Nigeria. It is inconceivable to think of how he could be allowed to board an international flight without producing his passport at Heathrow Airport of all places!”.

“What Mr. Buhari indirectly insinuated was that the British Security and Immigration systems are in shambles, dysfunctional and obviously compromised. On the other hand, this same Buhari’s statement when presented by DSS’ lawyer was deemed inadmissible and was subsequently struck out by a judge of the high court during the recent trial,” the IPOB declared.

Recalling that Britain has not forgotten the diplomatic row between the UK and Nigeria in the 80s when Buhari was head of state, IPOB stated that the attempt to breach the national security of the United Kingdom by an attempt to abduct late Umaru Dikko.
Part of the statement read: “We would like to remind the world that even if Mazi Nnamdi Kanu entered Nigeria without valid document/passport, the Nigerian Immigrations law stipulates detention for a maximum period of seven days followed by deportation.”
