Yobe State chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has honoured Governor Mai Mala Buni with an ‘Inclusive Governance’ award.

According to the association, the award is for Buni’s fairness to all ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds in his administration.

Presenting the award, yesterday, at Christmas homage to the governor, in Damaturu, Yobe CAN Chairman, Bishop Yohanna Audu, disclosed: “You won this prestigious award because of your style of leadership at the state and local council levels.

“Your administration carries everybody along; and this is irrespective of tribal, regional and religious differences across the state.”

The cleric commended the governor for appointing people from all faiths and ethnic backgrounds into his government.

Beside the appointments, he added that Buni was committed to peaceful coexistence among the various ethnic and religious groups with love and trust.

Audu noted that while preparing for the Christmas, CAN organised a unity carol with participants drawn from the six states in North East, while the Muslims were also having the National Quranic Recitation Competition (NQRC) in Damaturu.

“This is a clear demonstration of the peace, trust and tolerance we have in the state under your able leadership,” he said.
The bishop also thanked the state government for providing bulls during festivals as palliatives to the less privileged.

He added: “We are impressed with the administration’s award of scholarships to foreign students and the allocation of slots for the Jerusalem Pilgrimage to members of CAN.”

Responding, Buni assured the association of more opportunities to all persons, irrespective of religion, ethnic or cultural backgrounds.

According to him, the responsibility of building a peaceful society rests on everyone, urging the religious leaders to always preach peace to their followers.

“We thank God for the peace we enjoy across the state, and we all have roles to play in improving relative peace,” he said, adding that the award would propel him to do more in supporting and carrying everyone along. “It is an award I will live to value.”
