Buni completes trucks’ transit park to boost employment, IGR

Governor Mai Mala Buni

In a significant move to harness and develop enormous economic resources, the Yobe State Government has embarked on the completion of the Trucks Transit Park (TRTP) in Potiskum to boost employment and internally generated revenue (IGR) in the state this fiscal year.

The TRTP, awarded at a cost of approximately N3 billion, can accommodate 500 trucks daily.

Speaking during a media tour with journalists over the weekend in Potiskum, the Commissioner for Information, Abdullahi Bego, disclosed this while inspecting the trailer park ahead of its inauguration in March 2026.

“The completion of this park is to engage 5,000 youths who have been unemployed for over a decade,” he said, adding that other economic activities would also be revived, generating more revenue for the park authorities and the state’s Board of Internal Revenue (YOBIRS).

Highlighting the significance of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s commitment to boosting IGR and employment, Bego recognised the economic role of the transport sector along the Kano–Damaturu–Maiduguri transit axis in the North-East.

He stated that Potiskum is renowned for the construction and refurbishment of truck bodies across the country.

Beyond the completion of the trailer park, Bego added, “The Governor initiated the construction of the modern truck transit camp to decongest traffic gridlocks in most cities and towns, including along the 600km Kano–Damaturu–Maiduguri Expressway in the North-East.”

The trucks’ transit park, which is nearing completion ahead of commissioning, has a dozen warehouses, a fire service station, 86,000 square metres of truck parking lots, a mosque and a police outpost to secure truck drivers and their goods in transit to Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

The Commissioner for Housing, Ahmed Buba, also stated that the transit park, which will have access roads and hotel accommodation, is expected to be completed in March this year for commissioning by the governor.

The media team, comprising over 50 journalists, also visited the Ngalda community, located along the Potiskum–Bajoga Road in Gombe State, where the Buni administration built a modern market with shops, warehouses and market stalls for daily transactions in goods and services.

The District Head of Ngalda, Alhaji Danbaba Ngalda, lauded the state government for the completion of the modern market project in the border community with Gombe State.

Ngalda residents, including farmers and herders, revealed the community’s rich deposits of solid minerals, including gypsum, as well as its fertile arable land for the large-scale production of onions, potatoes, rice, maize and other vegetables.
