Governor Bassey Otu Cross River State.

Cross River State governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has approved the rehabilitation of facilities at the Calabar Golf Course.

The gesture includes the renovation of the Clubhouse, the golf course, the perimeter fence, and other supporting facilities.

The captain of the Golf Club, Maj Gen Ahmed M Sabo (rtd) who disclosed this to sports journalists in Calabar Monday described the gesture as the best thing to happen to the club since it was officially commissioned in 1991 because trespassers have over the years been using the golf course as their exit routes.

He stated that the governor who had promised to revolutionize golf in the state had already commenced action with the Clubhouse undergoing renovation to bring it up to global standard that would attract national and international tournaments.

Also in focus according to the captain are the new gatehouse and parking lot being constructed to give the entry point of the club a face-lift in line with the tourism and sports development policy of Cross River State.

The captain further hinted that Governor Otu who is a pacesetter and has a passion for the thrilling game of golf wants the Course to be lush green and playable all year round hence has okayed the installation of a new piping system with sprinklers.

The captain used that opportunity to shower praises on the governor for his unprecedented support of the club.

Vice-captain of the Club, Ukel Agba, said that the intervention by the governor has positioned the Club as an important step on the tourism circuit of the state, therefore complimenting its acclaimed reputation as Nigeria’s tourism destination.
