Centre seeks introduction of counselling units

She explained that counselling is a specialised concept offered to the individual, who is undergoing a problem and needs professional help to overcome it.

She made this known during the official unveiling ceremony of Secure-D-Future International Initiative (SDF) in Abuja.

According to her, guidance and counselling is a tool used to reform human minds through programmers which include effective study habit, and training to correct academic failure, adjustment strategy to enhance coping skill, leadership training, health talks, orientation for new environment.

The Founder of SDF, Mrs. Saadatu Adamu, said the mission of the initiative include reforming minds of depressed people, allay of anxiety, raise self esteem, removal of violent tendencies from emotional pain, child trafficking, kidnapping amongst others.

She added that SDF would be offering counselling programmes to individuals undergoing depression and need professional help to overcome the challenges.

“Our activities cover preventing the root causes of the anomalies that deform the mind. We give professional help by way of psychotherapy session, counselling, capacity building, and behaviour modification therapy,” she said.

Commodore Rotimi Oderemi, who represented Air Commodore Henry Babalola, said SDF has come up at a time when so many people in the society are battling with low self-esteem.

“I observed that some people have lost confidence in themselves, but with the intervention of SDF many would be rightly guided,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to come up with valuable concepts that humanity can benefit from.

“We must not despair, sometimes we think it is not possible to reach a particular height, but with determination, planning, hardworking, we will realise our dreams. Rather than lamenting, whenever we are face with challenges. We should endeavour to look at the remote causes of our problems or failures,” he said.

He recalled the life history of Isaac Newton, who lost his father when he was a kid, yet worked assiduously to become a great scientist and inventor.

Commodore Rotimi David Oderemi, who remarked that the project was dedicated to Almighty God for the progress of mankind, led the official unveiling of ceremony of Secure-D-Future International Initiative (SDF).
