The Centre for Media, Policy and Accountability (CMPA), has called on journalists who report corruption cases and anti-corruption agencies in Nigeria to back the implementation of Nigeria’s Anti-Corruption Performance Public Reporting project.

The group made the admonition during a media parley with journalists on the anti-corruption beat in Abuja.

CMPA is implementing the Nigeria’s Anti-Corruption Performance Public Reporting project, which is funded by the MacArthur Foundation and is scheduled to run from 2023 to 2024.

During the roundtable session , the Director of Communication, Outreach and Advocacy, CMPA, Ibrahim Uba-Yusuf, noted that the event which had in attendance over 25 journalists from broadcast, print and online media, were part of the advocacy against corruption.

“You all present here are part of our advocacy for anti-corruption reporting, and we hope that what you have learnt here will propel you to do better in reporting corruption cases”, Uba-Yusuf said.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director and Project Manager, CMPA, Dr Suleiman Suleiman, while addressing the journalists, pointed out the differences on how reporters and media organizations report anti-corruption cases. He attributed it to lack of a unified reporting template.

“However, at the end of the project, we will produce a harmonized reporting template for the media and the anti-corruption agencies”, he added.
