The Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, has stated that the state government is doing everything possible to establish the cause of the recurring chemical odour affecting some schools in Ijebu-Ode and to find a lasting solution to the environmental disturbance capable of disrupting academic activities and students’ performance in the area.
Recall that the incident first occurred earlier this year, while another case was recorded last month, making it the third occurrence.
Oresanya stated that the government needs to gather facts and properly identify the source of the problem before providing a permanent solution to the incident.
He added that more than 60 students affected by the chemical odour on Tuesday have been treated and discharged, and are currently in good health at their various homes.
Meanwhile, concerned parents have urged the state government to find a lasting solution to the incessant chemical odour in Ijebu-Ode and provide schools with adequate security measures that will guarantee students’ safety.
The parents stated that if the government can no longer guarantee the safety of their children in schools, they would be left with no option but to withdraw them from school, noting that it is the primary responsibility of government to provide adequate security for citizens
