A Chinese power generation company, CCETC, has expressed its readiness to establish a power generation plant and an industrial park in Ogun State.
Chairman of the company, Mr. Guo Xianda, disclosed this at the weekend during a meeting with Governor Dapo Abiodun and his team at the Governor’s Office, Abeokuta.
He pledged the firm’s commitment to install a 3MW power plant at the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, Iperu-Ilishan, free of charge, to boost economic activities in the area.
The investment pledge follows Governor Abiodun’s recent visit to China as part of his ongoing global investment drive. The governor, accompanied by a high-powered economic delegation, held talks with various investors across sectors, including technology, energy, and manufacturing.
Mr. Xianda, whose company is based in Jiangsu, China, said CCETC already has substantial investments in Nigeria and other parts of Africa, operating over 250MW of projects in Nigeria alone.
He added that the company’s total generation capacity exceeds 5,000MW and that it is seeking to deepen its footprint across Africa.
He explained that CCETC’s interest in Ogun State covers power generation and distribution, investment in a state transmission network, and the development of an industrial park aimed at attracting more Chinese manufacturers to the state.
Governor Abiodun, in his response, commended the company for its investment commitment, describing it as a major step toward strengthening the state’s energy infrastructure and industrial capacity.
He said the partnership would focus on three key areas: improving power generation and distribution, upgrading transmission infrastructure, and developing the proposed industrial park that would integrate power and manufacturing projects.
The governor is expected to lead the CCETC delegation on an inspection tour of ongoing power distribution infrastructure and projects being executed by Sahara and Powergen as part of efforts to ensure a stable energy supply across the state.
