CMUL commits to healthcare devt, set to establish prosthetics, orthotics departments

The Provost of College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL), Prof. Ademola Oremosu, has disclosed that in the next five years, the College is moving into other healthcare development, such as Prosthetics and Orthotics, to be globally competitive and evolve with current trends.

The Provost, while fielding questions from journalists during the maiden edition of the 2026 College Week, said that there would be training of professionals in speech therapy, occupational therapy and audiology.

He said: “We will continue to evolve. We intend to have a five-, 10-, and 20-year strategic plan. We are also looking at backward integration. There is the Diaspora bridge programme where people who have improved their capacity through emigration are able to give back to the system.

“It is a celebration of our community, connection, culture and academic excellence. The duty of an academic institution is to impact the community. So, we are reaching out to the community.”

“Over the years, we have grown. As of today, we have 10 programmes running in the institution. We also want to thank the current administration. Through TETFund, we are getting buildings coming up and we are looking forward to improving the welfare of our students. Stakeholders like philanthropists and alumni are complementing the efforts of the government.”

He added that the vision of the college is to be the centre of global distinction in medical training and research, clinical services as well as character and service to humanity.

On his part, Chairman of the College Week Committee, Prof. Omotayo Aribaba, said the weeklong activity is an opportunity for the students, faculty members, academic and non-academic staff to interact.

He said some of the activities during the week include a health and wellness section, thanksgiving service, free medical and dental outreach, sports, exhibition and trade fair, novelty match, Felix Oladejo Dosekun Memorial lecture, among others.

The lecture is expected to be delivered by an alumnus of the College, Senator Francis Faduyile.

The College Week holds from October 2-8, 2026.
