Commissioner warns motorists against reckless driving in Adamawa

The Adamawa state Commissioner for Works, Mohammed Suleiman, yesterday cautioned motorists in the state to desist from reckless driving and adhere strictly to traffic regulations, particularly along flyovers within Yola, the state capital.

Speaking to journalists in his office, Suleiman expressed concern over the increasing violation of traffic rules and the vandalisation of newly installed road infrastructure, including barriers, signages, and wire mesh.

He noted that while the flyovers are engineered to withstand heavy vehicular loads, some vehicles especially those carrying excessive weight, often develop mechanical faults while ascending.

According to him, such situations can lead to dangerous rollbacks, posing serious risks to other road users.

The commissioner further revealed that heavy duty vehicles occasionally break down at the peak of the flyovers, creating hazards and potentially compromising the structural safety of the bridges.

Suleiman urged residents and communities to take collective responsibility for protecting public infrastructure. He encouraged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any incidents of vandalism.

He also warned that anyone found damaging or misusing public property would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
