Conference on Onobrakpeya at 90 calls for papers
It’s a season of celebration for foremost Nigerian modern artist, painter and sculptor, Bruce Onobrakpeya, as he marks his 90th birthday.
In commemoration of the landmark event, the Bruce Onobrakpeya Foundation, in conjunction with Urhobo student bodies, is organising a conference on Bruce Onobrakpeya @ 90 at Onobraks Gallery, Agbarha-Otor, Delta State from August 4.
With the theme ‘60 years of creative genius,’ organisers of the conference have called for papers to be sent to email@example.com with the deadline for abstracts of not more than 250 words fixed for July 25.
Some of the sub-themes for the conference are Urhobo culture, folklore, myths and legends; women, females, maidens and creativity; Niger Delta environment, pollution and politics; Niger Delta youth, militancy and liberation; art, environment and climate change; art, religion and philosophy among others.
The 24th Harmattan Workshop August Retreat, which will start from August 7 has the theme, “Bruce at 90: Probing Art on the Flip Side.”
In Abuja, the celebration will be held at Merit House, University of Abuja, in the form of lectures and exhibitions of artworks.
To give back to the art community, a gala night and fundraiser to raise funds for building classes at Agbarha-Otor will take place at a later-to-be-announced venue sometime in October.
