LSSTF boss urges relocation of correctional centres
The Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) has requested the support of the state government in provision of critical logistics and equipment for safer custody and to prevent occurrence of prison breaks in the state.
Controller of Corrections, B.R. Freedman, stated this when he led a team of the command on a courtesy visit to Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).
Meanwhile, Executive Secretary/CEO of the Fund, Dr. Abdurrazaq Balogun, said the Service should consider relocating the correctional centres to create more rooms for inmates and also reduce the risk/cost-related to logistics and transportation of inmates to the courts in far locations.
He said that the Fund had supported the correctional service in the past with patrol vehicles, high capacity buses for conveying inmates and assured the agency of the LSSTF’s continuous intervention as much as possible.
Besides, he urged the Controller to encourage notable organisations and people in his network to make donations to the Fund for the benefit of security agencies in the state towards the improvement of security for all.
