Corona student distributes sanitisers, face masks to orphanage, others
She had earlier donated 250 face masks, 250 bottles of sanitiser and 125 bottles of liquid soup to Winiseph Elderly Care Home, Ojodu and Babes Salam Orphanage, Ikeja, Lagos.
She later distributed 250 face masks, 250 bottles of hand sanitiser and 125 bottles of liquid soup to Corona Secondary School, Agbara Maternity Health Care Centre and motorcycle riders at Agbara community in Ogun State.
Fareedah Mohammed, aged 17, who tagged the project, ‘Fareedah Mohammed’s Community Project: Reducing the Spread of COVID-19 Pandemic,’ said she seeks the reduction of the pandemic in her community.
According to her, since many people in the society might not be able to afford the sanitiser and face masks, she decided to raise money through fund-raisers to purchase and distribute the items freely.
She said: “I engage in this project because the cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria are rising. I believe visiting communities and presenting face masks and sanitisers would help reduce the cases of COVID-19.”
Her mother, Mrs M. Mohammed, who accompanied her while donating the items, said Fareedah always desires to give back to the society.
“So, when she brought the idea of donating these COVID-19 materials to the community, we encouraged her to raise the money through fund-raisers.
The school’s Vice Principal, Pastoral, Corona Secondary School, Agbara, Adesuyi Adejumo, saluted Fareedah for her courage, saying: “When things are going wrong in the society, she stood up to their rescue. Schools are not in session and did not deter her from doing something for her community. I say thank you to her parents for encouraging her to achieve this project.”
