In a bid to attract more commercial activities and increase its revenue drive, the chairman of Apapa Local Government Area, Owolabi Elijah Adele, has unveiled an N16 million empowerment programme for small businesses in the council area.

The council boss noted that though the area has some challenges due to the location of the ports and the state of roads to the ports, there is still live in the area and as such business activities must be supported to thrive.

He, therefore, called on the Federal Government to support the initiative of the council by implementing empowerment programmes for residents of the area since a huge chunk of its revenue is generated from the ports.

On measure the council has taken to alleviate the plights of residents, Adele said more than 10 dilapidated roads have been reconstructed. “Some of these roads include Moshood Tijani road, Anjorin road, Adeyemi road, Tiegate road, Aro road, among others.

“Also, we have made provision of 1,000 chairs and benches in several primary schools and secondary schools in Apapa while medical experts like dentists and optometrists have been doing a routine check up on students in primary schools.”

He urged residents to take up the opportunity of the N100,000 grant to boost their businesses.
