Council commission urges officials to file for retirement six months ahead
The Local Government Service Commission has advised retiring members of staff to forward their necessary documents to the Commission six months before their due date, with their functional phone numbers for further clarifications on their submitted documents.
The councils were equally told to celebrate their retiring officers with only few of their family members present.
Chairman of the commission, Kamal Ayinde Bayewu, gave the charge during an official visit to IfelodunLocal Council Development Council Area (LCDA).
Bayewu said officers willing to travel abroad should perfect their papers for study leave and give necessary notice to the appropriate authority, especially if they have been in the service for over 10 years.
He also urged members of staff to give priority to their health, especially on high blood pressure, diabetes and hypertension, by going for periodic medical check-ups to prevent sudden death.
Bayewu also advised the staff never to take surety for anybody without recourse to the approval of the Head of Office.
Executive Chairman, Ifelodun LCDA, Olufemi Okeowo, said henceforth, members of staff should not pay any subsidised amount for the staff buses to Badagry and Ikorodu, while efforts are being made to add two more buses.
Also, Permanent Secretary of the Commission, AkinbodeObadina, charged members of staff to be conversant with necessary legal documents, such as Civil Service Rule, Procurement Law and others.
He urged the human resources officers to be very strict on pre-retirement leave, saying that transfer of officers from one council to another should not be seen as a punitive measure but a way to expose them to other opportunities in any council.
Besides, he said that on assumption of duty after a transfer, human resource officers must issue the official a letter of resumption with dates.
