Court declares RUGA, cattle colony illegal in Benue

A Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State, presided over by Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon has declared the plan to establish Rural Grazing Area (RUGA) and cattle colony in Benue State as unwarranted and illegal.

A Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State, presided over by Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon has declared the plan to establish Rural Grazing Area (RUGA) and cattle colony in Benue State as unwarranted and illegal.

Delivering judgement in the suit filed by the Attorney General of Benue State against the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Justice Olajuwon declared that any move by the Federal Government to acquire land for RUGA or cattle colony in Benue without the approval of the state government “is null and void”. The judge granted an order nullifying every action taken to establish RUGA or cattle colony in Benue.
