Court, police bar journalists from covering trial of former Kwara governor Abdulfatah Ahmed

Federal High Court Ilorin on Friday barred journalists from entering the court premises to cover the trial of the immediate past governor of Kwara State, Dr. AbdulFatah Ahmed who was brought to the court for trial over complicity of N10bn while in office.

He was being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Journalists who had gathered at the Fate Road as early as 7:30 am for 9:00 am proceedings saw former governor Abdulfatah brought into the Federal high court at 8:50 am.

The police and court Registrar barred journalists from entering the court, saying that they were acting on orders from above.

Journalists were seen loitering in the area awaiting the arrival of the judge and the outcome of the trial at 9:45 am.

However, the EFCC Ilorin zonal Command’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale who convinced the authorities, in the company of some security men, took the journalists into the court premises but were denied entry into the proceedings.
