COVID-19 is not a death sentence, Akeredolu assures

Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has urged the people not to express unnecessary fear towards coronavirus, assuring them that it is not a death sentence for anyone who tests positive to the virus.

He declared this in Akure yesterday while addressing union leaders and updating the people on the ninth case of coronavirus case in the state, revealing that they’d soon overcome the virus. He urged the people not to be afraid but be proactive by abiding to all precautionary measures and regulation.

While speaking on the May Day celebration, he said his administration is committed to the welfare of workers, pensioners and dividends of democracy for all. He added that for career fulfillment by civil servants, he appointed 14 permanent secretaries in 2017 and another 27 in 2019 in spite of the fact that some of them had few months to spend in the service.

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Okitipupa Local Government Area have rejected the adoption of the PDP South West Chairman, Eddy Olafeso, as the consensus candidate of the party ahead of the governorship election in the state.

This was contained in a statement made available to journalists in Akure yesterday by the Coordinator of Senator Boluwaji Kunlere Campaign Organisation (SBKCO), Bamido Omogbehin. Meanwhile, it was announced that Olafeso emerged as consensus candidate of the party in the council after a shadow election conducted among the five governorship aspirants from Okitipupa LGA on Thursday. But Omogbehin refuted the claim, describing it as an aberration against the constitution of the party, affirming that his principal, Boluwaji Kunlere and others were still in the race. He explained that all the aspirants in the council met to discuss the development and fortune that awaited the party in the forthcoming governorship election and only five of them were present, Senator Kunlere, Dr Olafeso, Otunba Dele Akingboye, Engr Ogunwa Oboli and Barr Bimpe Olatemiju.

Omogbehin affirmed that party leaders usually conduct shadow primaries, while voters and delegates are left to make their choices.
