The Rivers State Police Command organised a send-off party to honour the outgoing Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu.

This followed the Police Service Commission’s (PSC) announcement on October 3, 2024, redeploying four commissioners of police, including CP Disu, who have been reassigned to Abuja after serving 11 months in Rivers.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Tammy Wenike Danagogo, praised CP Disu as an exceptional police officer who exceeded expectations despite the state’s turbulent political landscape.

Fubara noted that politicians from both sides can attest to Disu’s impressive performance in crime fighting.

He urged Disu to replicate his success in his new assignment and awarded him an “A” (Excellent mark) for his service.

Fubara also charged the new Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Bala Muatapha, to remain professional and apolitical in his duties.

In his brief speech, the newly deployed Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Mustapha, said he will work with state and non-state actors and serve the state with integrity because he wants to live in peace like his predecessor.

He urged all stakeholders to extend the cooperation that was given to CP Disu to him.

Earlier in his opening remarks, CP Disu stated that he would not have succeeded without the dedication of officers of the Rivers State Police Command, as well as cooperation from members of the public and support from the Rivers State Government.

He urged the police command under CP Mustapha to continue the synergy with the Rivers State Government and all stakeholders to maintain law and order.

In his goodwill message, Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, General Overseer of Omega Power Ministry (OPM), prayed to God to continue to elevate CP Disu.

A book titled “The Shield” So far, Rivers In Progress, which detailed achievements in crime fighting under CP Disu and published by the Rivers State Police Command, was given to guests at the event.

The Guardian noted that four retired Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), Commissioners of Police, serving Senior Police Officers, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Police Officers Wives Association, Traditional rulers, captains of industries, members of Civil Societies, and Youth groups were all in attendance.
