Cultists in their hundreds have embraced the amnesty offer of the Rivers State Government, even as the government declared two cult kingpins, who refused to embrace offer in Ikwerre Local Government Council, as enemies of the state.

While accepting the amnesty offer, the cultists surrendered lethal weapons, such as: AK 47 rifles, Dane guns, dynamite, NATO gun and detonators; at Isiokpo, the headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Council.

The repentant cultists included those that had also been involved in nefarious criminal activities, such as, kidnapping, killings and armed robbery.

Chairman of the Amnesty Committee, Mr. Ken Chinda, expressed optimism that the acceptance of the amnesty offer and the surrendering of weapons by the repentant cultists, would usher in peace to Ikwerre council.

While explaining that the cultists were mainly drawn from Iceland ‎and Debam, Chinda pleaded with them to desist from criminal activities, stressing that soldiers would be deployed in any forest in the state considered as hideout for criminals and fish them out.

The chairman therefore, declared two of the cult leaders, Samuel Nkasiobi, aka Italian, and Okechukwu Amadi, aka Gunboat; as enemies of the state for refusing to accept amnesty.

Earlier, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ikwerre Council, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, stated that the Federal Government ‎security agencies would hunt down cultists, who refused to accept the state amnesty offer.
