The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, under the headship of the Customs Area Controller, Dr Ben Oramalugo, has led an environmental sanitation exercise at the Customs Barracks in Ijokodo, Ibadan, Oyo State.
   
He said the initiative demonstrated the command’s commitment to maintaining a clean, healthy, and safe living environment for all personnel and their families.  

The exercise, which commenced at 7:00 a.m., witnessed enthusiastic participation from officers, their families, and other residents of the barracks.

The event included various activities such as cleaning of the barracks premises, clearing of drainage systems, and waste disposal. The exercise also aimed at fostering a sense of communality and responsibility among the residents.

“This sanitation initiative also aligns with the Work-Life Balance of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi; the broader environmental sustainability goal of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), which seeks to integrate eco-friendly practices within its operations; national environmental sanitation policies; and reinforces the command’s dedication to community health and well-being.
   
Oramalugo said: “Sanitation is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that our living and working conditions are conducive to health and efficiency. Our barracks is not just a place where we reside; it is a reflection of our commitment to excellence and discipline. Ensuring a clean environment is paramount to our health, morale, and overall effectiveness. ”

He used the opportunity to sensitise residents on sustainable waste management practices and the importance of maintaining a clean environment. He also urged all residents to adopt regular sanitation habits to prevent environmental degradation and promote public health.
