The Minister of Interior, retired Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, on Friday in Abuja inaugurated a 19 -member committee to organise the maiden Interior games.

Inaugurating the committee, Dambazau said that the game was to foster unity and enhance service delivery among staff of the ministry and all the para-military services under it.

This committee is saddled with the responsibility of organising the Interior games. You are meant to come out with details of venue, date and source of funding for the games’’, he said.

He said that the Police, Prisons, Immigration, Fire Service, Civil Defence and the Ministry would compete in the games scheduled to hold in October.

The minister asked members of the committee to work round the clock to ensure befitting games which other ministries could emulate.

I don’t have doubt in your capacity to organise a befitting game, we are not going to interfere with your work, but you should also feel free to consult us where necessary’’, he said.

He said sports was vital to the health, mental alertness, unity and productivity of civil servants in the country.

Mr Patrick Elaigwu, Chairman of the organising committee and Director of Human Resource in the ministry, pledged the commitment of members to the task ahead.

He assured the minister, who is the grand patron of the Interior Sports Club, of coming up with innovative and sustainable games that would be the pride of the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the committee comprises two members each from the services under the ministry, officials from the Ministry of Interior and Sports and the Federation of Civil Service Games.
