Davis Cup

Fresh from its successful campaign for qualification to World Group 11 of the Davis Cup, Nigeria has been pitted against Morocco in the competition billed to hold from September 18 to 20, 2026.

Nigeria defeated Uzbekistan 3-1 in the playoff at the weekend to qualify for World Group 11, which features six other games the same week.

Morocco (48th) is the second highest ranked African country, behind Egypt ranked 42nd.

Nigeria moved up by eight places to 66th following its defeat of Uzbekistan in Lagos, but it will travel to Marrakech to face the higher ranked Morocco in the World Group 11 competition.

Morocco holds a 4-0 head-to-head advantage over Nigeria.

The North Africans lost 1-3 to Colombia in the 2026 World Group 1 playoff in Casablanca hence their demotion to meet Nigeria in the Group 11.

Other pairings in the draw released by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), yesterday, include the game between El Salvador and Portugal, South Africa versus Bosnia, Dominican Republic versus Egypt, Cyprus against Ukraine and Uruguay versus Estonia.

Other games will see Kazakhstan battling with Thailand, Slovenia against Israel, Indonesia versus Romania, Syria against Lebanon, Bermuda versus Mexico and Tunisia against Pakistan, as well as Bolivia versus Hong Kong, China.

According to the ITF, the teams are expected to send in their squad lists for the games on the Monday preceding the event.
