Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, has urged Deltans to place the collective interest of Delta State above narrow ethnic, political or sectional considerations as the state marks its 35th anniversary.

Dafinone, in a goodwill message commemorating the anniversary, felicitated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the government and people of Delta State and the Urhobo people, describing the milestone as an opportunity to reflect on the state’s journey and renew commitment to its peace, unity and sustainable development.

He said the progress and future of Delta depended on the ability of its people to look beyond sectional interests and work together for the common good, stressing that the diversity of the state should be harnessed as a strength rather than allowed to become a source of division.

“Our diversity should remain a source of strength, not division,” Dafinone said, urging Deltans to recognise and respect the contributions of the various ethnic groups and communities that make up the state.

According to him, Delta State is “one big heart and one big family,” and its people must continue to embrace one another with love, mutual respect and understanding, irrespective of ethnic, cultural or political differences.

He called for healthy competition in ideas, enterprise and development, rather than rivalry capable of undermining the collective interest, saying Providence had brought the people together for a common purpose.

Dafinone also commended Governor Oborevwori for his leadership and urged Deltans to support efforts aimed at building a more peaceful, united and prosperous state.

He expressed confidence that putting Delta’s collective interest above narrow or sectional considerations would strengthen the state and create a better future for present and coming generations.

The senator wished Delta State many more years of growth, prosperity and enduring unity, while calling on its people to use the 35th anniversary as a renewed opportunity to deepen their bonds and advance the development of the state.
