Delta assembly passes state judiciary financial autonomy bill

The Delta State House of Assembly yesterday in Asaba passed the state’s Judiciary Fund Management (Financial Autonomy) Bill, 2019.

Speaker of the House, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori who presided over plenary described the passage of the bill as a milestone for democracy in Delta State.

His words: “The bill will strengthen the financial autonomy granted to the judicial arm of government. At the Committee of the whole, members painstakingly went through the Delta State Judiciary Funds Management (Financial Autonomy) Bill, with contributions and amendments, which aided us in the consideration of the Bill.

“I congratulate all of us on a job well done. The passage of this Bill is a huge milestone for democracy in Delta State.

“Without a doubt, this Bill will strengthen the financial autonomy granted to the judicial arm of government and ensure accountability, transparency and efficiency in the utilisation of the funds which shall accrue to the judiciary from the state’s Consolidated Revenue Fund.”

Meanwhile, the state Technical and Vocational Education Board has invited members of the public, to register for training with its centres in six skills acquisition programmes across the state.

The training programme runs between three to six months of two streams of January to June and July to December every year at Asaba, Sapele, Agbarho, Ozoro, Bulu-Angiama, Mbiri, Otor-Owhe, Emede, Ubulu-Uku and Orerokpe.

A statement issued by the Executive Secretary, Ikem Smart yesterday in Asaba, noted, “Interested applicants are to apply for skills in fashion and design, hairdressing and makeover, as well as electrical installation works.”

“Others are Information Communication Technology (ICT), Welding and Fabrication, General Craft, Catering and Confectionery, Computer Engineering, Barbing, as well as Events Management and Decoration.
