Delta government urges communities to protect school facilities, institute mentorship

The Delta State Government has again restated the need for communities to embrace its advocacy and mentorship groups to secure infrastructure, as they will take charge of facilities in their domains, insisting that the essence is to safeguard the facilities against vandalism.

Chief Inspector of Education, Ministry of Education, John Ojogo, stated this during the unveiling of a block of three classrooms, uniforms, school bags, books and umbrellas donated to 400 pupils and teaching materials to 20 teachers of Agbaide-Gana Primary School, by Umugini Pipeline Infrastructure Limited at Agbara- Otor in Ughelli North Council Area.

Ojogo who spoke while handing over the facilities furnished with pupil’s dual seats, renovated toilet with water closet, musical and other equipment to Head Teacher of the school, Vincent Lucky, expressed appreciation to the donors and urged other individuals and corporate organisations to emulate the gestures.

While unveiling the building, Managing Director of the firm, Blessing Ayemhere, said, “Our strategy is to start assisting the young ones and see them through a better equipped educational environment, because they are the future we are working for.

“We want to encourage their teachers and parents to assist in building that future we all desire, as they are the leaders of tomorrow. That is why we have given out 55 scholarships to children of our host communities.

“Although we are not an oil and gas producing or prospecting firm, ours is to transport crude oil midway, so we do not have the kind of resources that could have enabled us to do more, but we are doing this because we care for our immediate community and their welfare.

“We are doing this because we are in an interesting community that has been very encouraging, which has moved us to add value here,” he stated.

The building was the first structure in the school, and was in a deplorable condition, before it was renovated to a modern facility and equipped for more convenience.

Earlier in his welcome address, the head teacher, said the classrooms equipment with modern learning facilities, is a huge relief and one of the many interventions that the company has done for them. He listed so many of their donations to the school, since he assumed office in 2018.
