Shevolve Impactorium, the impact arm of the Shevolve movement, has reached approximately 250 students of Holy Rosary Secondary School, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, with an outreach focused on identity, leadership, personal growth and self-awareness.

The programme, held to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child, provided a platform for the students to discuss their aspirations, recognise their potential and explore ways to overcome limitations imposed by their circumstances.

The two-hour engagement, themed “I Am More Than ‘Here’,” was led by Dr Ezinne Okwulehie, founder of the Shevolve movement, who encouraged the students to look beyond their present realities and embrace the possibilities available to them.

Okwulehie’s message centred on the idea that a girl’s background, current challenges or limited access to opportunities should not determine the course of her future. She emphasised the importance of self-awareness, continuous learning, personal development and intentional decision-making in shaping individual growth.

The outreach featured panel discussions, leadership conversations, counselling and healing-focused interactions, allowing the students to participate in conversations about issues affecting their personal development and future aspirations.

Discussions also highlighted the importance of self-awareness and personal responsibility in leadership, with participants encouraged to develop their voices, recognise their strengths and remain open to new possibilities.

As part of the initiative, 90 copies of She Affirms, a book authored by Okwulehie, were distributed to students. The book explores the importance of intentional self-talk and the influence of the words people use to describe themselves and their aspirations.

The organisers said feedback from the students reinforced the importance of creating supportive spaces where girls can express themselves, ask questions and engage meaningfully with issues affecting their growth.

Beyond the outreach, Shevolve Impactorium is seeking to establish a sustained partnership with Holy Rosary Secondary School, including a proposed adoption arrangement and the creation of a Shevolve Leadership Girls Club.

The proposed club would provide continuing platform for mentorship, leadership development, identity-building and personal growth, with the aim of helping students develop greater self-awareness and prepare for future responsibilities.

The initiative forms part of Shevolve Impactorium’s broader effort to translate the Shevolve movement’s focus on identity, growth, leadership and legacy into community-based programmes.

Beyond commemorative activities, initiatives focused on girls’ development often seek to promote access to education, protection, mentorship and the skills needed to participate fully in society.
