Delta State Traditional Rulers Council has called on security agencies to be alive to their responsibilities in warding off any threat to peace and security in the state.
The advice, which was given during the council’s monthly meeting in Asaba, came on the heels of the planned move by agitators of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to extend the sit-at-home restrictions to Delta State.
In a five-point communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Council, Major General Felix Mujakpuerou (rtd) Orhue 1, advised citizens to be vigilant and urged traditional rulers to be more security conscious.
The council also advocated constitutional roles for traditional rulers to be captured in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
They also stressed the need to be accorded specific responsibilities for conflict and security management in their domains.
During the meeting, the traditional rulers received in audience, participants of Senior Executive Course 44 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Plateau State, who advocated for the strengthening of local government administration to enhance effective leadership.
