Delta police arrest seven suspected armed robbers, kill one

Operatives of Delta State Police Command have arrested seven suspected armed robbers at various locations across the state and recovered over 100 rounds of 7.62MM AK 47 live ammunition hidden inside a black polythene bag.

    
The Command’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Bright Edafe, yesterday, confirmed the arrest in Asaba.
   
He said on June 20, an anti-crime patrol team attached to ‘C’ Division, while on stop and search duty at the head-bridge Asaba, intercepted an unregistered KC Sanya motorcycle conveying four men, including the rider, one of them with a black polythene bag.
    
Edafe stated that when the suspects sighted the police, they abandoned the motorcycle and took to their heels, but the officers gave them a hot chase, leading to the arrest of 29- year-old Michael Reuben and Odemba Onochie ‘m’ 30, both of Okoanala Oko in Oshimili South Local Council of the state.
  
According to him, one of the suspects, Reuben was caught with 100 rounds of 7.62MM AK 47 live ammunition hidden inside the bag, while a manhunt for the other fleeing suspects is ongoing.

SIMILARLY, operatives of the Command’s Special Intelligence Team, acting on intelligence have arrested two suspects, Ifeanyi Samson (an ex-convict), ‘m’, 28 of Ushi quarters Onicha-ugbo and Chibuzor Obugor, ‘m’, 20 of Ugoko community all in Aniocha North  Local Council of the state.
 
Edafe said following the strength of the confession of the suspects, operatives stormed Onicha-ugbo community and arrested three additional suspects; Ike Okwudili, ‘m’,  34 (the gang leader), a native of Agulu Community in Aniocha Local Council of Anambra State, but resident in Onicha-ugbo Community, Udoka Promise, ‘m’ 17, a native of Igbodo village in Ika North Local  Council of the state and Chiazor Daniel, ‘m’, 26 of Onicha-ugbo community.

    
According to him, one fabricated English pistol, a Lifan Super Ladies and Sanya Super Honda motorcycles were recovered from them.
  
The police image maker also disclosed that a suspected armed robber was shot dead by the police along Jesus Avenue in Umusadege quarters in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Council.
    
He explained that the anti-crime patrol team engaged the suspects in a gun duel and one of the hoodlums sustained bullet injuries, while the others escaped.
  
The injured suspect, Edafe said, was taken to the hospital where he died.

He stressed that a manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang is ongoing, while a locally-made gun, four live cartridges and four expended cartridges were recovered.
