
The Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri on Wednesday presented a Budget proposal of ₦480,993,632,369.00 (Four Hundred and Eighty Billion plus) for the year 2024 to the State House of Assembly.
Diri while announcing this in a statement on X said the Bayelsa State Government has christened it a “Budget of Sustainable and Shared Prosperity.”
“This appropriation bill is a budget of consolidation as we march into our second term in office following the renewed mandate given to us by the good people of Bayelsa State,” he said.
“Confidently, I can say the 73 percent performance of the outgoing year 2023 budget ensured we made a great impact across different sectors, hence, the wide acceptance of the Prosperity Government by the people.”
The Bayelsa Governor said in the 2024 financial year, the government will focus on completing several ongoing projects.
Diri added that his administration will also commence new projects with the highest allocation of N141.8 Billion to the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
This is followed by the Ministry of Education at N49.8 Billion and then, the Ministry of Health which has been allocated the sum of N26 Billion.
He further said that the Bayelsa government wants to keep with the priorities and goals of its prosperity agenda to create wealth among the people.
As a result, the specific objectives of the 2024 budget will include deliberate plans to empower indigenes-owned businesses.
The 2024 budget will also help to expand these businesses as well as create more manpower through different skills acquisition trainings and educational institutions.
“As a government of Prosperity, the government will invest more in peace, security, and the power sector to attract new investments into Bayelsa State,” Diri added.
