Don wants academic, industry collaboration for national development

Vice Chancellor of the Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye yesterday stressed the need for collaboration between academics and industry, saying such partnership will boost efficient national innovation strategy.

He made the assertion while speaking at the institution’s Research Day and Conference with the theme: Greening Academia/Industry Research Synergy: To Promote Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria.

Ezemonye said collaboration was germane for skills development, knowledge exchange, promotion of start-ups and spin offs through eco-innovation.

He said the university played a pioneering role in the synergy between academics and industry, which stems from the need to mainstream Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the nation’s higher education.

The Vice Chancellor, who stressed the urgency to foster collaboration, said eco-innovation, as a model was a veritable strategy for attaining successful inter-industry engagement towards equitable sustainable economic growth and development.
