DPO rejects N1m bribe from kidnappers in Kaduna

The Nigeria Police

A gang of bandits involved in kidnapping have offered a N1 million bribe to a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the Kaduna State Police Command to compromise investigation.

The bandits were found in possession of N2.35 million ransom during arrest by the police. The DPO, however, rejected the bribe. Spokesperson for the command, ASP Mansir Hassan, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said the police, acting on reliable information, arrested the suspects, including 28-year-old Bello Muhammad from Zamfara State.

According to him, Muhammad confessed to his involvement in a kidnapping operation in the Kagarko forest area of Kaduna.

“The seized amount is believed to be part of the ransom collected by the criminals.

“During the investigation, a significant turn of events unfolded as Bello Muhammad attempted to bribe the DPO with N1 million to impede the ongoing inquiry.

“In a commendable display of integrity, the DPO firmly rejected the bribe. The arrested suspects are now providing crucial information to aid further investigations,” Hassan said.
