Dr. Isioma Okobah bags highest medical award in US
Nigerian-born United States of America based renowned physician, Dr. (Mrs.) Isioma Okobah has bagged the 2017 prestigious fellow of the American Academy of Family Physician award (Degree).
According to a statement signed by her spokesperson, Frank Whyte, the award is the highest honour ever bestowed on practicing physician in the United
States of America who have distinguished themselves among colleagues and in their community by their contribution towards the development of family medicine.
The degree is also conferred on physicians who excelled in the advancement of healthcare to the Americans and by their professional development through medical education and research.
The award, conferred on the recipient on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the 2017 convocation ceremony of the Academy, held at Grand Hyatt, River Walk, San Antonio Texas, USA, attended by veteran physicians and stakeholders in the medical field from 50 nations of the world.
The awardee is an Associate Professor of the school of medicine, Emory University School of Medicine and Moore House School of medicine, Atlanta Georgia in the USA. In the last 12 years or more, Okobah has distinguished and carved an enviable niche for herself by periodically carrying out free medical programme for the rural populace in Delta State.
In specific terms, through her foundation-Isioma Okobah foundation, she has advocated and sensitised the rural populace of Delta State, her home state in on the need to live a healthy life style. She has consistently provided free medical programmes, where the sick in the various communities are treated free of charge and presented with free medication.
Her humanitarian gesture in this area has earned her household name, not only in Nigeria, but outside the shores of the country. Communities that have benefited from such programmes include Igbodo where she single handedly built a community hospital, Ute-ogbeje, owere-olubor, Akumazi, Umunede, Ewuru, Alisimie, Abavo, Asaba, Ibusa, Orhoakpor, Owa Alero, Ezi and her humanitarian work cuts across the length and breadth of Delta State.
