Department of State Services (DSS) has threatened to institute legal action against Senator Emmanuel Orker-Jev (PDP, Benue North-West) over comment on the disappearance and eventual death of Vanguard journalist, Tordue Salem.

Department of State Services (DSS) has threatened to institute legal action against Senator Emmanuel Orker-Jev (PDP, Benue North-West) over comment on the disappearance and eventual death of Vanguard journalist, Tordue Salem.

The senator had, at a senate session, suggested that the missing journalist might have been arrested by the DSS.

But DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, at a seminar on media and national security organised for journalists covering the agency, at the weekend, said the secret service, never, at any time, detained the journalist in any of its facilities.

According to him, the discovery of the body of the deceased and account that he died in an accident, vindicated the service.

He said: “Senator Orker-Jev made some scathing remarks about the DSS that the deceased was in our detention. That is fake news. It is even more worrisome that such a high calibre person would be engaged in the spread fake news. That means that fake news has no age or status limit.”
