• Ayorinde says leadership must be people-centred to tackle insecurity

The Bishop of Oyo South Diocese, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), The Rt. Rev. (Dr) Olufemi Familoni, has decried the state of insecurity in Nigeria, expressing deep concern over the disregard for human life and the disturbing killings across the country, particularly in the Middle Belt region.

The bishop, who spoke yesterday during the Easter celebration, emphasised that no nation could progress if its citizens and property are not safe.

He, however, questioned the essence of the security budgets at the disposal of those at the helm of affairs, if there are still embarrassing security lapses in the country.

Also, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission and Lagos State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Stephen Adegbite, has called on Christians to use the Easter season as a time for deep reflection on God’s love for humanity and the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on the Cross.

Adegbite asked believers to extend such sacrificial love to fellow human beings, the nation, and its leadership, noting that Easter should inspire compassion, unity, and national transformation.

He also expressed optimism about the future of Nigeria, assuring citizens that the nation would not disintegrate despite prevailing challenges.

Adegbite stated this during the just-concluded four-day Destiny 2026 conference, themed “A
Time of Refreshing in His Presence,” the yearly gathering of Vineyard Christian Ministries Inc. held at the church’s headquarters on Osolo Way, off International Airport Road, Ajao Estate, Isolo, Lagos. The event also marked the ministry’s 38th anniversary.

Meanwhile, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Bolaji Ayorinde, has called for a shift towards people-centred leadership as a critical step to tackling insecurity and fostering genuine development in Nigeria.

Ayorinde appealed during the Easter service and send-forth ceremony for the retiring Bishop of Ibadan, The Most Revd Joseph Akinfenwa.

The event was held at the Cathedral of St. James the Great, Oke-Bola, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The Deputy Chancellor of the church reflected on national issues while praising the retiring bishop’s decades of dedicated service, stressing that Nigeria urgently needs leaders who prioritise the welfare of citizens over politics.
