Caretaker Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Emegha, yesterday, criticised Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, over his verbal attacks on Governor David Umahi, associating him with political violence.

Wike had lambasted Umahi over his recent prayer in Abuja that God should give Nigeria another President like Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, saying that his prayer was a bad one for the country.

The Rivers governor said it was wrong for Umahi to wish the nation another leader like Buhari who he claimed failed the nation in all ramifications.

But Emegha, in Abakaliki, yesterday, described Wike as a man known for political violence; hence roundly unfit to occupy any public office in Nigeria, especially the exalted office of a state governor.

He stated that Wike’s public utterances and carriage since he became governor were unbecoming of someone who is holding a public office, urging him to refrain from taking intoxicating substances.

Emegha, a consultant to the Ebonyi government on internal security, wondered why Wike shifted his focus from the governance challenges in Rivers to attacking Umahi at every opportunity.

He traced Wike’s anger to Umahi’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC.

He said: “That well-calculated political move of Umahi has caused a continuous mass exodus in his dying party. Since last year that Umahi left the PDP for the APC, Wike has lost focus and direction.

“Rivers is unfortunate to have such a visionless man like Wike as governor at this critical time. How can the defection of one man so unsettle a state governor that he has lost direction? Wike should know that no amount of cry and lamentation would bring Umahi back to PDP. He should accept this reality and stop embarrassing the people of Rivers.”
