The police in Anambra State have assured the residents of adequate security during the Easter period.

The Commissioner of Police, Eworo Echeng, gave the assurance during a meeting with Commanders, Heads of Tactical Units, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Heads of Department (HODs) across the command, yesterday, in Awka, promising the command’s readiness to tackle security challenges.

He tasked the people of Anambra to emulate and adopt the selfless lifestyle of Christ as they join other Christians around the globe to celebrate Easter.

While wishing the people a happy, fruitful and hitch-free celebration, the CP urged them to be security-conscious and continue to provide the police with useful information that will assist in tracking down criminal elements in the society.

He charged the officers and men to be on the alert and responsive, to prevent any untoward situation in their areas throughout the celebration.

The CP also charged them to sustain police efforts in crime-fighting and improvement in public safety across the state.

Echeng said: “I urge you to put in place all necessary security measures to ensure a secure, peaceful and incident-free celebration throughout the Easter season and beyond.

“The command’s officers are enjoined to, among other things, carry out confidence building and crime prevention patrols on major highways, residential and industrial areas, vulnerable points, places of worship, other places of public resort and around all critical national infrastructure.

“All personnel deployed must be professional and mindful of the fundamental rights of the citizens, and discharge their responsibilities with all sense of decorum and vigilance.”

He further said that the command was collaborating with other security agencies and stakeholders within the state to provide adequate security and safety in this regard.
