The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned six officials of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for allegedly misappropriating ₦96 million in public funds.

The defendants, including senior finance officers, appeared before Justice Akanbi of the Kwara State High Court, facing charges of criminal breach of trust. The EFCC claims they diverted funds meant for education between 2018 and 2019.

Prosecution lawyer Andrew Akoja requested their remand in a correctional facility, while defence counsel Abdullahi Lawal sought bail.

The court adjourned the trial to April 16 and ordered their detention.

The charges, punishable under Section 315 of the Penal Code, highlight Nigeria’s ongoing fight against corruption in the education sector.
