EFCC nabs Lebanese with over $2m, other currencies at Abuja Airport


Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested one Abbas Lakis, a Lebanese, for money laundering offence.EFCC’s acting spokesman, Tony Orilade, said in a statement, yesterday, in Abuja, that Lakis was picked up at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, following intelligence report that he had on him, undeclared huge sums of monies aboard the Egypt Airline bringing him from the Kano Airport en route Lebanon.

At the point of arrest, a thorough search on his luggage uncovered $2,104,936; £163, 740 and 144,680 euros, Orilade added.He maintained that other currencies found in Lakis possession included 391,838 Riyal; 3,420 Swiss Franc; 435 Lira; 109,000 Lebanese Pounds; 10,135 UAE Dirhams; 10,000 Chinese Yuan and 10 Qatar riyals.
Orilade said Lakis would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.
