The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has cautioned commuters and boat operators to prioritise safety while traveling across the inland waterways, particularly during the ongoing rainy season as the world celebrates the Eid-el-Adha.
LASWA, in a statement felicitating with Muslim faithful in Lagos, strongly advises passengers to avoid night travel on the waterways due to reduced visibility and weather-related risks that may compromise safe navigation.
“Plan your trips during daylight hours and remain vigilant at all times. Navigate with utmost caution, follow all operational safety guidelines, do not exceed the speed limit, and check weather conditions before every trip. Never compromise safety, as it is a shared responsibility,” the authority stated.
LASWA also mandated all passengers and crew to wear life jackets throughout every journey as it is required.
The Special Adviser on Blue Economy to the Governor of Lagos, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, reaffirmed LASWA’s commitment to ensuring safer, secure and efficient waterways transportation across Lagos State.
“LASWA wishes all residents a peaceful and safe Eid al-Adha. Please celebrate responsibly and follow safety-first practices on the waterways,” he said.
He urged waterways users and operators to contact the authority for information regarding safety in the state.
