Eight die in Imo road crash

A fatal auto crash involving two vehicles has claimed the lives of eight people in Imo.

The accident occurred around 6:45 pm on Sunday at the Amala, Ngor-Okpala axis of the state.

The spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command revealed the eight people who died in the accident were all occupants of the vehicles and there was no survivor.

“The tragic incident involved a Toyota Camry with registration number EPE 541 JO and a Hyundai Santa FE with registration number AAA 212 CD.

“Regrettably, all eight occupants of both vehicles lost their lives in the crash, with no survivors,” the spokesperson disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday.

The Police have launched an investigation into the accident and are working towards identifying those who lost their lives in the accident and notifying their relatives.

As a means of averting future occurrences, the state’s commissioner of police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has cautioned motorists to avoid reckless driving.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, strongly cautions motorists against reckless driving and excessive speeding, which remain major causes of road accidents.

“He urges all road users to drive responsibly, observe traffic rules, and exercise patience while on the road. Every driver has a duty to protect not only their lives but also those of other road users by adhering to established road safety regulations,” he added.
