Ekiti orders school heads to refund unathorised levies
The Ekiti State Government has ordered heads of public primary and secondary schools that had collected unauthorized levies at the beginning of the 2018/2019 academic year to return the same to their pupils and students.
The Deputy Governor, Bisi Egbeyemi, who ordered a full compliance by head teachers and principals at his office yesterday stressed that the education development levy and other unauthorized fees remained abolished in the state.
In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Odunayo Ogunmola, the deputy governor further directed that evidence of such refunds must be brought to the Ministry of Education for verification.
Egbeyemi said the action was consequent upon the Executive Order 001 signed by Governor Kayode Fayemi on 24th October, 2018 abolishing payment of Education Development Levy and other unauthorized fees in the state.
The directive has been conveyed in a letter to stakeholders in the education sector, including the permanent secretaries of the Ministry of Education, Teaching Service Commission (TSC) and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB),
