Elections 2015: PDP decries emerging political tension in Lagos, Ekiti states

Related

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned what it termed as emerging “height of political tension” in Lagos and Ekiti states, ahead of the April 11 elections.

This is contained in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by Mr Olisa Metuh, the PDP National Publicity Secretary.

He urged the president-elect, retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, as the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to call his members and supporters, particularly in Lagos and Ekiti, to order.

Metuh noted that it was the peaceful atmosphere and level playing ground nurtured by the PDP-led administration that ensured Buhari’s emergence at the March 28 presidential polls.

“Our country cannot at this moment afford to slide into anarchy, reign of terror and deliberate schemes to divide the people for selfish political reasons,” the statement quoted Metuh as saying.

He described as senseless and unpatriotic, the impeachment move against Gov. Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti, by out-going APC legislators in the state.

He also decried the alleged death threats on non-indigenes of Lagos State by a prominent Oba if they voted for the PDP candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje come April 11.

Metuh maintained that it was most unfortunate that a royal father should attempt to drag the revered traditional institution into partisan politics, adding that this should not be accommodated.

“Our response to the Oba is that he cannot play God and can never be God.

“God owns the universe and every part of it and can never share His glory with any human no matter how highly placed,” Metuh said.

He, therefore, called on non-indigenes in Lagos State irrespective of religion to turn against this unpatriotic stance, by coming out en masse to vote for PDP candidates on April 11.

He said the PDP totally reject the flimsy and unsubstantiated allegations concocted by the APC legislators against Fayose.

“We state in very clear terms that we will stand with him and bear our full weight in defense of the mandate freely given to him by the people of Ekiti State.” he said.

Metuh called on all democrats and the international community to take note of the current happenings in the country.

I am a very staunch, die-hard, and committed supporter of President Goodluck Jonathan even in diaspora. I have left my job, spent my own money severally to attend meetings in his support all across the States. I know what a lot of people (ignorant!) might be saying here. But one thing is certain- God is everywhere and, He alone, sees the hearts of all men. I believe everyone has the right to belong to any political party of his choice. Even, despite that, I am not a politician and I am not looking for any political or elective position, or any appointment or contract from anyone or any government. It was actually on one of the meetings I reunited with two of my old friends! It was one of the meetings I had the privilege of seeing Mr. President eye-ball to eye-ball for the first time when he came to the States though not because of the meeting but on official trip (OAU summit)! However, I am highly disappointed that Mr. President is now behaving as if Buhari has already been sworn-in as the President of Nigeria! Not at all. I believe the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and every other places is clear about that. Constitutionally, President Jonathan should remember he is still the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. And he shall remain as such until after the handing-over on May 29th. Having said that, the President should now rise up and stay firmly with (behind?) everyone that fought tooth and nail for him in the last election because they wanted him to be re-elected. The fact that the President lost in the election should not be an excuse for him to abandon all those people at this crucial time. If APC are talking about criminals, 70% of their members are criminals! APC is actually a pack of crude and rugged and criminals of highest degree. I stand to be challenged on that. As far as PDP is concerned, the President still remains the leader of the party and all the members. It is not over until it’s over, so they say. 52 days is no joke. Nobody knows. Yes, nobody knows. The President-elect is currently on tour and using his victory as a disguise to “thank” the people whereas the motive behind it is to campaign for APC’s governorship candidates for the election coming up on Saturday! I know his trick will surely work because a lot of our people are so flexible! It’s very unfair for President Jonathan to now sit on the fence. It’s true the President does not need any election in Nigerian politics again, but what about one of his subjects in the near future? Nobody is saying he should be going round to campaign for any one or party at this time, but the moral support and enthusiasm should be there. It’s not easy to loose in an election of such nature. But we are glad that the President has not broken any record but created one. Where his predecessors even including the successor in waiting have failed and crumbled and stumbled, President Jonathan has triumphed! He should stay solidly behind his fellow party members especially those contesting the governorship election, and Gov. Fayose of Ekiti that they are planning to impeach because of his unalloyed support for the President. He stood firmly with the President to the end. Where others failed, he succeeded. Long live my dear President. It’s well with you in Jesus name.
