
Over three years after the #EndSARS incident, Nigerian human rights activists, Dabiraoluwa Oni-Ayoku and Ifeanyi Okoye, have called for the questioning of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari on the actions of the military at the Lekki Tollgate on October 20, 2020.
It would be recalled that the Army had stormed the venue of the protest on that fateful night and shot at the protesters, while they were holding the Nigeria flag.
They said the ex-president should be called to answer queries on the instruction of the military action, as well as all he knew about the protest that went violent.
“I would be very honest and this is a constructive explanation from my end. First and foremost, there was an administration in power at that time and ex-President Muhammadu Buhari was the head of that administration. I know for sure that no country’s military act without the approval of the Number One citizen, in person of the president. The Number One should be held responsible for the #EndSARS incident, which continues to resonate among Nigerian youths, “ Oni-Ayoku began.
Supporting Oni-Ayoku’s submission, Okoye, who called for ex-Army Chief, Tukur Buratai’s trial, said: “Many people say Sanwo-Olu should not be exonerated, but I can tell you, categorically that the governor was never in charge of the security apparatus. That will happen when we have a state police…’’
